Today I’ve been reflecting on stories… We all love a good story… Right!

My early influences…

I think that my love of stories came from a young age… when my mother used to tell me bedtime stories… of fairies and fantasy… later came “Story Teller”… with the regular “ping” at the end of each page, I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen on the next page – Oh the suspense! I carried on reading… whether it was Roald dahl’s “Charlie and the chocolate factory” or the suspense of Enid Blyton’s “famous 5″… each page was filled with excitement and intrigue…

Books brought to life…

My reading then dwindled… yes, I read the required books for school… but a new form of story was much more exciting… The BIG screen! As a nation we became so hooked on movies… that we took them off the big screen and brought them into our homes… to be watched over and over again. But that wasn’t enough… We craved more… and soon the movie plot was split into 30 episodes and the series was born. We also became hooked on reality TV… and whether we were watching people make over their homes or their lives, or whether it was a random bunch of people running around the globe, our favourite celebs, Ā or just trying to survive in one place… we just couldn’t get enough!

So what’s the appeal?

Why does this appeal so much? Partly because we like to escape… Partly because it’s exciting to watch others live their dream… Partly, because we actually learn from other people’s stories. Not a new concept… in biblical times Jesus shared many lessons through stories…

Which got me thinking…

What are the stories I’m listening to? What am I learning? Whether it be stories I hear via those nearest and dearest to me… or some random stranger on a blog… or whether I’m watching a movie or series… each of those “stories” are teaching me important life lessons… sometimes they are great instruction… sometimes a great lesson on what not to do…

And then… I got to thinking about the stories that I’m telling… what am I feeding into other’s lives? and how can I make it more positive??? And that’s partly why I started Count{er}act… I want to encourage myself to think more positively…and spread a little goodness out into the world at the same time šŸ˜‰

What next?

For me… I think I’m going to rekindle a little reading in 2013… and I’m going to start with some life lessons from some of the greats in business… and see what lessons I get from their stories…

What about the stories in your life?
