Do we need to plan + set goals?
You’re busy slaying goals, achieving dreams, and making it happen… and now as I talk about setting goals and planning in your business – you’re probably wondering “Do I reeeaalllyy need this???“
I’m going to straight up say that having some form of strategy, plan or goal is going to help make sure that you don’t become a slave to your business, constantly reacting to situations as they hit.
If you want to stay one step ahead of the game… then you need to take a sec every once in a while + invest in your strategy.
Invest in the time to think about creating the business you want.
Time to pre-empt some of the potential things that could be hitting you.
Time to dream and plan and create some time to achieve new things too!!
I’m also going to say… that it doesn’t have to be a boring ball ache exercise either!
So here are 3 tips to make traction with your goal setting.
1. Check both ways
Whilst it’s exciting to look forward and dream all sorts of wonderful new things you can do, there are a lot of clues hidden in the past too – that shouldn’t be ignored.
Making traction requires you to learn from what you have already done, created, and worked on.
So when you’re doing your review – make sure that you look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of what transpired in the last quarter.
Using that solid base – you’re able to make a better decision on which areas make the most sense for you to make traction on.
2. Get intentional.
Goals without meaning or purpose fade fast.
After the initial idea, I know that I tend to lose interest… fast!
Think about it… want to lose 10kg – so you start a diet. Great idea… till you’re faced with rabbit food. Then very quickly [in my case sometimes even before lunchtime] the idea starts losing it’s sparkle… and the effort required isn’t so exciting any more… and next thing – you find yourself hunting through the grocery cupboard searching for any form of chocolate that can be find
Take a different situation. My back starts giving me trouble.
I need to do exercise to strengthen my back and stop a potential slipped disc. Now… doing pilates each week means that I am able to continue walking… the motivation is a shit ton stronger… and you’d better be sure I’m diligent about keeping up with it!
Same thing in business… You set a goal to make XXX revenue. But you don’t really get meaningful behind why you’re in this business [other than “need income to pay bills”] so when the business get’s tough [which it often does] – it’s just that much easier to throw in the towel.
When you have a strong purpose / calling linked to what you do… you find your way through the obstacles… you make the effort needed to get the traction you want.
3. Get visual.
Writing the goal down is one thing.
Want to take it to the next level… and really make traction?
Have a visual reminder to jar your memory of all the awesome things you’re working towards.
Taking the woo out of it, having a visual reminder of your goal – something you see regularly – helps to trigger your mind subconsciously to do something about it.
My friend used a picture of a manor house to manifest a new home for her family. The place she found, had so many similarities to the house it was uncanny.
My moodboards have helped me manifest a home, an expensive camera, a promotion + then a new career, and even a baby!
Each year I create the visuals slightly differently.
The first time I created the board – it was on 15 different cards [I was still figuring “all the pieces of me” out and needed 15 boards to help me work out what was important],
then I created my boards digitally [but printed it out + had it on my devices],
I have also had seperate boards for business and personal… and I have grouped them all together on one board.
There is not one particular right way.
This year, I am trying another new fresh approach. I will create separate square boards for different aspects I want to focus on [because #instagramready] – things like where I’d like to see my business going, what “future me” looks like, and my family/relationship goals. I will combine all these boards into one board for my computer screen – but I like the idea of having seperate “squares” or blocks of life to keep things ordered.
Here’s one example of one of my squares – and it’s all focused around the business I’m creating:

I’m not going to give away all my secrets 😉 – but what I will share with you is that my focus has shifted towards really serving my ideal clients.
Knowing what their struggles are, I have a variety of solutions that I will be creating over the course of the year, and I’m itching to get started!
My goal for 2019.
Is to build ease into my life.
So know that the solutions I create for you will also have ease in mind [because aint no body got time for complicated systems]!
